Wahoo! Upgrade!

So I upgraded the blog to the NEW blogger! So far I don't see a whole lot of difference, but I've never been much for complicated coding, so I'm probably safe. :-)

I'm so NOT looking forward to back-tagging all my posts though. :-)

PFP Blogoversary!

Today is the one-year anniversary for Pretty, Fizzy Paradise!

So um...wish I had an interesting story behind this blog really. I remember being pointed toward Ragnell's blog by a friend of mine, but being too shy to really say anything. Then Diamondrock was all "Let's make blogs!" and I was all "Okay!"

And here we are.

Yeah. I never claimed to be terribly deep. :-)

So what's changed for me since the founding of this blog?

I've switched favorite Green Lanterns. Much as I love Kyle, I apparently love red-headed jackasses more. Oh well. :-)

I've somehow lost my hatred for both Jade and Dick Grayson. This irritates me more than you can possibly understand.

I've written pseudo-literary analysis! And not for school!

I've discovered feminism. Well, I've always been a feminist, I guess. But only in the past year have I really been vocal about it, and where I stand with different issues.

I've gotten involved in a few side projects.

I've actually got an online presence! I've surfed and lurked for almost a decade, here and there and everywhere, but I'd never really managed to get enough courage to pop out and say hi!

I've written a fanfic! And a parody script!

I've been on fandom_wank! With my real name attached! o_O

I've been crusading to increase appreciation of Sanderson Hawkins. (As well as Johnny Sorrow)

And abused poor old Wes Dodds.

I've graduated college! And got myself a job! (Now on to LSATs in February!)

I kept to a goal of at least one post a day! And held it! (I never said they'd be GOOD posts mind you!)

And most importantly, I've had a lot of fun and got the chance to talk to all you guys! It's been a blast!

Here's to next year!

Happy Thanksgiving!

Well, it's a day late, but I decided to do my Happy Thanksgiving post on Friday instead.

Mostly because I need the good will to brace myself for a 5 AM Black Friday shift!

So what am I thankful for?

I'm thankful for the continued health and well-being of my family and friends.

I'm thankful for my job, as much as I'm dreading today, it's really nice to have work. Especially work I actually enjoy.

I'm thankful for NaNoWriMo, because even though I'm not likely to finish, it's still a rewarding experience.

I'm thankful for my hobby. There are a lot of problems that can't be denied, but I truly believe there's something great and amazing about superhero comics that makes them worth the fight to fix them.

I'm thankful for my column and especially my blog. I've been having a lot of fun with them and they've let me "meet" a lot of great people. Love you guys!

Now that I'm all warm and good spirited, I'm off to work! So have a Happy Thanksgiving everyone.

And please be nice to your friendly retail workers on this Black Friday! We don't get hazard pay! :-)

Decisions...

Okay, so this Blogger Beta thing's been around for a while now and I've been toying with the idea of changing PFP over.

I do like the idea of being able to tag all my posts. But I'm leery of change and set in my ways. I don't trust these new-fangled thingamabobs.

But it does sound kind of nifty. So what I'd like to know, from you folks who've made the switch already, is what's it like? Are there major downsides? What are some of the advantages?

Tell me what it's like? Is it worth switching over?

Rejected PFP Blog Post:

In an ideal world, there would be a post in this location. An essay maybe, a silly realization, or possibly a silly or interesting image.

Sadly, there is nothing. I'm drawing a complete blank today. I blog stream of consciousness and this stream's run dry.

It's been a long week.

However, I might have something for you.

You see, my blog posts are very rarely the first topics that *actually* come to mind. Usually there's something else. Something so incredibly ludicrous that even I can't bring myself to actually write it.

So here's my new feature. On those days in which I draw an absolute blank on anything else to write/post, (this happens very frequently actually) I will reveal a blog post that I did consider, but rejected as too silly for Pretty, Fizzy Paradise.

(Just realize that considering my Guy Gardner is a woman essay actually *made* the cut...)

Anyway, today's Rejected PFP Blog Post:

"It's all Greek to Me: Xanadu as a Retelling o Wonder Woman...with Roller Skates!"

Introduction

Hmm, okay, so here I am. I suppose I should post something about myself.

1. I'm a female college student in my fifth and final year at Michigan State University. My major is Japanese Language and Culture, and *No* I can't say anything in Japanese to you. I can however talk to you at length about the political environment of the Tokugawa Bakufu.

2. I am all about the homoerotic innuendo, so if that creeps you out, you might want to go elsewhere. I'm pretty equal opportunity though. Femslash is fun too.

3. I like Ron Marz, I like his writing, I think he's a nice guy, and I don't think he's a misogynist. (besides, they're not real women)
3b. And I'm looking forward to his writing Ion because I know this means lots of Kyle in bondage with torn costumes.

4. I like all the Green Lanterns. All of them. Even G'nort. I love Kyle best, but I like them all.

5. I like Robin too and I don't actually think Willingham was that bad. I think he had a lot of interesting ideas... (Duty to his father vs. duty to the mission being the impetus for Tim leaving the uniform; Manufacturing an Uncle Eddie because he can't just tell Bruce "I don't want to be adopted by you"). The thing is, if I think about them, they do sound like the Tim I've been reading since A Lonely Place of Dying. It's just the execution kinda sucks. Maybe it's the pressure of too much editorial mandate (having to write for War Games and all the IC prologue stuff had to suck) or just incompatible styles. I'll be glad Robin got a new writer, but I won't throw things at Mr. Willingham.
5b. Besides, I love Fables like an unholy thing of endless glee. But I miss Bigby Wolf!

6. Not a big fan of Devin Grayson's run on Nightwing. Honestly, and this might be weird, because most female fans seem to love her, she's just too *much*. She was perfect on Gotham Knights, but given Dick's solo title, writes it like angsty fanfiction. Which is fine, for fanfiction, but not so much for an actual line. I love angst like no one's business, but damn it, there needs to be *downtime* in between traumas. A guy (and an audience) needs a break. This has the advantage of making the next traumatic event even worse.

7. I like both Kon-El/Superboy and Bart Allen/Kid Flash better in their Teen Titans incarnations than their Young Justice. It's called growing up and I like that in my characters.

8. I love Guy Gardner like a mad mad thing. This deserves its own point. I also like Cosmic Boy. (Anyone who spends an incarnation wearing only a corset in space can forgiven all the bitchiness in the world. :-P)

9. I wish they'd stop being coy and just tell us who are in the goddamn costumes. It's not going to spoil my enjoyment to know Dick's Nightwing, Tim's Robin, et cetera. It's just going to let me know if I want to commit my spending money on a freaking subscription.

10. I love Sanderson Hawkins too. Sand deserves his own comic. A silicon based, semi film-noir, surreal dream-utilizing detective drama. He should get to wear a hat too. Because...I like hats. Failing that, he should get more damn panel time in JSA.

11. I'm weirdly very shy commenting on other people's journals and will compulsively check back going "Ack, please don't hate me!" Otherwise, I'm perfectly normal.

Hmm, I suppose that is all for now. I have a post about Women in Refridgerators lined up soon. I'm also on AIM, with the screen name "Kalinara" (sans quotes) if anyone is ever interested in chatting.

Oh and a final note: Damn, the Green Lantern: Secret Files and Origins (2005) issue was incredibly, incredibly suggestive. In a way that can't be an accident. Seriously. *Someone* had to have said, "Um, Mr. Johns, it's just...well, the juxtaposition of these two scenes...well, they...um, they look kind of gay." Someone had to have. It's just...

It's a beautiful, beautiful thing, and makes me proud to attend the same university as Mr. Johns, who is now my hero.
