Pretty, Fizzy Paradise

I'm back! And reading! And maybe even blogging! No promises!

Crap.

I finally read GLC. And I liked it! A lot! I really like the way they're using the Star Sapphires and it makes more interesting story potential.

I'd feel a bit more comfortable if we saw a male Star Sapphire though. Just one or two. Female-dominated is more fun than female-exclusive in my experience. And it intrigues me to see men in traditionally female type roles sometimes.

One part did give me pause though, and it's the same part that -brainfreeze- blogged about here

My problem with Kyle and Soranik is three-fold.

1) Like Brainfreeze, I'd rather not see Soranik defined by her role as "girlfriend".

2) I don't want Soranik to die.

3) She and Kyle never really seemed to jive romantically for me.

I mean, maybe a bit during Recharge, but even then, I thought Soranik had much more interesting chemistry with Guy. Granted, now that Tora's back, there really isn't a contest. But still...

Actually, I thought Soranik had the most chemistry with Iolande. :-) But that's probably just me. Too bad.

I'm sure I'll enjoy it. But I really REALLY hope they don't kill her off. Doctors are cool, damnit!

Two things and I am just gonna throw them out there......

    1) Why can't Kyle become just the boyfriend? Just saying.

    2) Anyone else think Natu is gonna be Sinestro's Daughter?

I know I'd be inclined to buy the book if that happened...

Thats a Sinestro Corps member isn't it?

Ditto to Ghost In the Shadows 2nd comment.

Seriously how could she NOT be Sinestro's daughter, she's just as cocky and her world seems to hate her just because she uses a ring? Come on.

My thought (based on pretty much nothing) is that the Violet Lantern's power isn't really to show the true "heart's desire" but to artifically generate love that may or may not have been there to begin with. They've never been "good guys" before.

My favorite part was where all the empty rings came flying by Salaak after the various Lanterns contemplated the ramifications of the Guardians latest law.

    Stupid Guardians!

While I guess I don't mind Kyle and Natu getting together, I really didn't notice that much chemistry between them. A little mild attraction perhaps, but yeah, I thought she and Guy had a more dynamic relationship.

I wonder if Iolande will be jealous?

You'll get a male Star Sapphire when you pry it out of my cold, dead blog. So here ya go!

Not technically what you're looking for, I know, but I hope it will do in the meantime.

    Kali,

I agree that I'd love to see at least one male Star Saphire (and could he please not be gay? That would just be trading one stereotype for another). As for Soranik and Kyle together, I'd like to see it mainly because it would be the first time that Kyle's been with a really strong minded woman who didn't also have some pretty strong identity issues since Alex in my opinion. Kyle's a nice guy and all but in his own way he's as much of a pig headed chauvinist as Hal or Guy, so seeing him get rocked back on his heels by a woman who doesn't just think of herself in terms of her relationship to him would I think help the character to grow and develop.

OK, that would be an interesting twist, plus I wonder if the yellow "infection" is all they can "cure."

On a twisted note, that has porn implications all around that comment.......been reading too much old Witchblade I think.

I would heartily support an Iolande/Soranik pairing. I'm a little disappointed that we haven't seen them interact much in a while after the promising tension/chemistry they showed in the beginning. The thing with Kyle just seems rushed and artificial to me. Maybe they're both just lonely and sort of flirting with the idea of liking each other, so Miri's crystal just showed them what they wanted to see?

While I think it would be more... eh, poetic... for Katma to be Sinestro's daughter, I think signs currently point to Soranik. He certainly seemed to take a special interest in her, and I agree with Nick that they do share some personality traits. I could very easily see Sinestro as having been a surgeon of some sort before he became a Green Lantern. (Is the story that names him as a former anthropologist considered canon these days? I can't keep track.)

Of course, for all we know, that could just be coincidence, or it could be attributed to Korugarian cultural influence, since we don't really know what values they raise their kids with. Oh, how I would love to be given more cultural details about these other planets.
