NANOED!

Well, the Pirates of the Oort Cloud have not quite been thwarted yet, but the quest has officially reached 50,000 terrible words! Ergo, I can say:

I win!

And now I sleep!

(And you have an extra night to submit any meme questions! :-P)

So Anyway, MEME

Okay well, it's Thanksgiving weekend. Too long away from work and I get bored. (Still NaNoing, but a bit behind...)

So...I'm gonna meme!

It's the usual game. I think of ten characters, but won't tell you ahead of time. You ask questions like "if 1 challenged 9 to a game of strip parcheesi, who'd be stark naked first?"

So ask, and I'll answer!

Catching Up on Comics:

I finally got to read Steve Rogers: Super Soldier.

I was pretty much doomed to like it anyway, because I love me some Steve Rogers and his particular brand of awesome.

But then they had reverted skinny Steve kicking ass which is totally one of my favorite things ever ANYWAY. I just wish it lasted a bit longer.

But the best part for me was this:

Steve is awesome

Any hero would be upset at the whole "robot girl replicating one's long-dead girlfriend" bit, but I like how Steve's first response to the robot reveal is to be upset because it's cruel to her.

Later of course they team up, (Steve is good at appealing to people's decency and conscience) and it's great. But that was the moment that really stuck out. Because Steve lets go of his Cynthia angst (her resemblance to Cynthia is only referenced afterward by the villain as part of his means to lure Steve in) and focuses on how cruel it is to her. Because Steve Rogers is not a self-absorbed douchebag. :-)

I missed you Steve, never go away again!

Talkin' a bit about my story.

I suppose I could always, considering it's NaNoWriMo, actually talk about the story I'm writing. I'm behind, but I've still got a reasonably good chance of actually hitting 50000 words this time around.

Basically, the story is a total pulp sci-fi, B-Movie, Mary Sue filled extravaganza.

It is Dreadful!

And I'm having lots of fun writing it.

The plot is: chick who is the avatar of a star (which is totally just a convenient excuse for her being able to fly in space, be invulnerable, and melt shit on command, and any other powers the plot requires) teams up with a crazy space spy/cop from a planet of repressed lunatic eugenicists to hunt down a group of pirates based in the Oort Cloud.

The pirates totally have a doomsday weapon (of course) called a "Starkiller" (of course!).

Basically, the characters just spend a lot of time having "witty banter", vaguely hitting on each other, punching pirates or shooting them in the face respectively, and the guy gets captured/injured a lot because it amuses me.

I have learned that I'm dreadful with any sort of romance or sexual tension that doesn't involve punching bad guys in the head. But I'm having fun anyway.

So, this is why I haven't been blogging.

What are you up to?

Shameful Confession

I actually think the trailer for Tron: Legacy looks kind of awesome.

(I didn't even care for the first one!)

Proto-Lawyer No Longer!

I can officially drop the "proto-"! Yay me!

On the downside, I'm totally abysmal at NaNo (I am the world's slowest writer, I swear to god) but I'm totally too happy to care!

I'll fail at NaNo if it means passing the bar!

Ooo.

Okay, you know. I have to admit to having some doubts about the whole casting Chris Evans as Captain America thing. It's not that I ever thought he'd be a BAD choice, but he isn't one that came to mind for me at all when I was thinking about who I would have cast. (Unlike say, Robert Downey, Jr. as Iron Man. Or even Hugo Weaving as the Red Skull. I admit I didn't think of the latter either, but I really should have because that shit is awesome, man.)

But this Entertainment Weekly cover (which I totally swiped from Newsarama) is pretty awesome.

I mean, sure, it doesn't say much about how he'll look in the actual movie (there are candids roaming around, I think, but then I don't put much stock in those either because they always look kind of ridiculous to me. I get too distracted by the cognitive dissonance of silly movie costume/setups and real life to be able to make a good determination) but as just an image, it looks PERFECT to me.

It's the perfect mix of cheesiness and an odd sort of dignity. He looks grave and earnest and just a little silly without crossing over to fake ears or inflatable muscles. And more over, something that's important to me (though it may annoy other fans, I suppose) is that he looks YOUNG. Captain America, especially WWII Cap, SHOULD look young in my opinion. He should look a little strange barking orders at Robert Downey Jr's Iron Man, (one commenter at Newsarama points it out as a detriment, but I think it's an advantage), because it emphasizes that Steve Rogers is what makes Captain America such a powerful figure. The serum is just a mechanism.

So, yeah. I've always thought he could do the personality well enough, but I wasn't really sold on the look. Now...I'm pretty sold. Awesome.
