A Miscellaneous Thought, Again

God, I hate weekends. :-)

I was thinking of those old comics where inexplicably, for no real reason, they'd just have the team randomly playing baseball or some other sports game. This would inevitably involve entertaining use of powers and other things, of course. And people getting carried away with the spirit of competition and all those other things.

It almost always seems to be baseball actually, and I always wished I'd see them playing other things. Like water polo. Or Badminton.

Wolverine trying to play badminton seems like a very entertaining mental image to me.

Possibly I haven't been getting enough sleep lately...

Wolverine and Rogue play Gambit and Jubilee in a 2-on-2 basketball game in a 90s X-Men book...

And the non-powered Firebird played tennis...

IIRC, there also was at least one soccer game in the original New Mutants (which makes sense given that the non-US members wouldn't know the first thing about baseball at first and that soccer is huge both in Brazil (Sunspot), Russia (Magik) and Scotland (Wolfsbane)).

And then there was that Futurama episode in which they played beach volleyball until all the balls had been accidentally deflated by Zoidberg's claws.

That reminds me that Scud had both a beach volleyball game and a hockey game. Of course the hockey game involved lava and lasers and chainsaws...

Did you read the recent annual of Captain Britain and MI-13 where everyone was playing a veddy British game of cricket? Good times. Made me all nostalgiac for the 90's X-Men Baseball games.

And of course, everyone knows Wolverine's real passion is curling. :P

Wasn't there also an X-Treme X-Men issue or post-XXM story where they played cricket (presumably at the instigation of Thunderbird III from India)? Unfortunately I seem to recall that it showed that the artist in question had no idea how the game is played and Neal held the bat all wrong.
