Immediate Reactions to 52

Okay, so I read 52! It was fun! Bit of a tease. No spoilers from me, except for the fact that like Infinite Crisis 7, the best bits were the random Sand sighting and Guy prompting the funniest part of the whole comic:

Aww, Guy, we all know you've got a squishy underbelly. You tear up at Disney Movies.

And for the curious, I clipped the random Sand sighting, complete with helpful label/arrow courtesy of Microsoft Paint.

Okay, I couldn't resist a few other comments too.

...and yeah, it is completely unreadable. You try writing legibly with Paint using a touchpad. :-P

That's what DC comics is all about! Seeing your favorite characters reduced to blips in huge crowd scenes.

Calvin: Yeah, but the year ain't over yet...

Is Guy talking to the Japanese Dr. Light?

    calvin: Yep!

zaratustra: *shrug* Large universe means not everyone can do everything. As long as the characters are still alive...or died in an interesting/resurrectable way, there's hope. :-)

dan: Lots of things can happen, no sense worrying about them :-)

Does seem that way. Still think she's gonna end up slapping him. Look at their body language (at least what isn't blurred by gratuitous amounts of red)

Hey, every character is somebody favorite.* Certainly huge crowd scenes shouldn't be the focus of every comic, but the occasional Where's Waldo scene is always fun.

I mean, look at that scene. It's packed. Austrilian gay icon Tazmanian Devil is getting interviewed. Dr. Niles Caulder appears to be hitting on Grace. Empress and Beast Boy are consoling Wonder Girl. The Shadowpact are apparently antisocial jerks. It's fun to just take it all in.

For my part, I was overjoyed to see Mr. Mind two pages before. Mr. Mind is the most awesome supervillain of all time.

    *except Pantha.

Yep! And it's always good to have reassurance that your favorites aren't dead yet. :-)

Normally I'd have cynically said that DC couldn't have killed Sand because he wasn't shown violently exploding in some background panel, but that wouldn't be taking One Year Later into account. There was always the chance he was going to explode in a flashback.

Besides, Sand's a Metamorpho-type -- he has a built-in explanation for any resurrection. This means he's more likely to die, but it's never permanent.

*nod* But still, last time he diffused through the Earth, it took more than a year to show again. :-) So I'm still happy.

Geo-force was the person I was happy to see. Also amusing: Plastic man disibly dissing Katana, Lane, and Stargirl to chat up Gypsy. (Or possibly it's a string of failed attempts...)

But...anyone have any idea who black-suit-and-headband guy praying to the inverted-logo superman statue could be? 'Cause I'm obsessing a bit there...

You know, when my favorite characters die, I promise myself that I won't get angry over the "death" of a fictional character. This promise made it a lot easier to deal with my favorite character having a statue put up of him this issue.

But I was somewhat amazed at how much relief I felt when I saw Zauriel fly in in that spread. I was happy he survived. I was positively giddy.

Oh crap, I am a fanboy!

Now I just have to find out the fate of Damage and I can rest a little easier.

I notice that we have a good shot of the Magic Cleavage Window - does Dick Grayson have the willpower to keep his eyes above the horizon, or will his eyes dip to the Power Girls?

Does that say "rack open" there?

"Rack seen from space!" I got it... God Bless Power Girl.

    Wait a second...

    Where's the hell is Ystin?!!

I see Zatanna, Kliarion, Bulleteer, Guardian, Mr Miracle and Frankie; but no Shinning Knight
    :-(

I'm sure Ystin's just off panel somewhere. *nods emphatically*
