I'm contemplating going to see Shutter Island because it looks really good. (Though I'm not really good with scary type movies so I don't know.) But I have this weird mental block with Leonardo DiCaprio.
Like...I KNOW he's actually a good actor. And he's been in a lot of risky and interesting projects and played a wide variety of complex characters.
But whenever I think of him, I still think of Titanic first. And also, he seems to have stopped aging at 18, and somehow that prevents me from taking him seriously as an actor*.
*Apologies to all ACTUAL 18 year olds reading this.

No apologies! I am offended! :P
Shutter Island was actually pretty good. Intense.

Watch "The Aviator". That might cure you.
For the most part, his movies are pretty much slam-dunks as far as getting your money's worth is concerned.

I concur on The Aviator, and possibly a little example from the other end of the aging spectrum, What's Eating Gilbert Grape?

Getting puffy =/= getting old. He might look thicker now, but that just makes him look like a puffier 18.
Man is 37, according to Wikipedia. That's just wrong.

My personal favorite DiCaprio is Catch Me If You Can, but it's not gonna make you think of him as any older.

My problem with DiCaprio these days is that he's still too pretty for the tough-guy roles Scorsese keeps sticking him in: Gangs of New York, The Departed, and now Shutter Island. I'm like, give that guy a couple of facial scars and maybe stop combing his hair for a week, then I might be ready to take him seriously.
