Belated Reaction to Cancellation News

I have to admit, I'm a lot more disappointed by the cancellation of Manhunter and Blue Beetle than I am Birds of Prey.

I suspect this is because I'm fairly sure that the BoP cancellation ties in with Batman RIP. From the 20 Questions thing on Newsarama, I'm guessing that after the Oracle miniseries, there'll be something resembling a BoP ongoing again if in a somewhat different form.

With Manhunter and Blue Beetle though, I'm less certain. I believe we'll see the characters around the DCU, but it's not the same. Eventually, they'll probably fall into limbo.

I get the reasoning behind it,, but it's incredibly disappointing. :-(

    Manhunter AND Blue Beetle.

DC clearly doesn't want my monetary support.

What really gets me is that apparently someone's going to die in the Blue Beetle finale.

What purpose does that serve? It's a terrific supporting cast, and we'll probably never see any of them ever again anyway. So why bother with that last painful turn of the knife?

I'd like to blame DiDio like any fanboy for these cancellations. But really the worst that can be said is that DC didn't do much to promote either Blue Beetle or Manhunter. And that midlist titles don't fare well when people have limited purchasing power and the Big Two prefer to push their Event books and all the associated tie-ins to said event...

So instead I can only blame the comic's fans who seem to PREFER now yearly or even quarterly Events...

Oh well, it'll put me down to a single main DC ongoing book (Secret Six as long as it lasts) for awhile...

As for the death in the finale. I don't think Sturges PLANNED on it being the finale when he plotted out a story arc that ended with someones death...

I'm still buying a handful of books, but honestly the only two that I'm ever excited about anymore are Green Lantern Corps and Booster Gold.

I wish they'd push the big events less (or at least stop splitting them into so many different titles). I mean, is anyone really excited about Final Crisis? I'm aware of it, and I'm buying the books of it that interest me, but otherwise I could honestly care less. Because we're barely seeing any ripples from the Crisis events in the regular monthly titles, it feels very surreal -- almost like an Elseworlds rather than something actually happening in the DCU that I should be concerned about.

I'm enjoying Final Crisis, mainly reading the mini and not the tie-ins, save for that Superman two part thing and Revelations.

Anyhoo, very sad about Blue Beetle and Manhunter. Been supporting for a long while but they needed more of us it seems :(

What sucks I have a feeling Manhunter will fade to limbo faster than Jamie. Blue Beettle should get good mileage over at Teen Titans.

It's the shame, you got me into comics, this news got me out of comics.

The $4 price point coming soon would have done it anyways.

I'm just sick at the deaths of Manhunter and Blue Beetle. I suppose that Kate can show up in the (hopefully) revamped Birds of Prey, but what about Jaime?

What really makes it strange, is that they just had the triumphant debut of the cartoon "Brave & the Bold" which prominently featured young Blue Beetle. You'd think that kids watching, would want to get a comic about him.

    *sigh*
