Miscellaneous?

Ooo, it looks like they've confirmed the villain of the new Avengers movie. (Link contains spoiler, obviously.)

Also apparently there'll be 7 avengers, which seems like a pretty good set up to me. :-) I'm especially looking forward to seeing Captain America get unfrozen. That's always one of my favorite stories and I love seeing how they do it.

On an unrelated note, can someone explain to me what the appeal of the Ultimate Universe is now that they've killed almost everyone (or at least everyone interesting) off anyway?

I'm not sure what's going on with the Ultimate Universe any more. It was rather interesting when it all started out, but I always thought that the whole point was to tell stories withOUT the years and years of continuity baggage? And then they could hardly wait to drag in all that old baggage just as soon as possible, and the whole thing apparently collapsed under the weight.

Haven't they started killing everybody off in the most revolting ways possible?

The only thing I know about the Ultimate Universe is that a bunch of people died around the time that Ultimate Spider-Man (the only book in the universe that I was actually following) ended. I haven't yet gotten any of the new series and mow I heard they're killing Spider-Man for realsies? *shrug* Maybe I'll just cut my losses and leave off with Immonen's last book.

I'm sort of sticking with it because I've been collecting it since day 1, and Bendis on USM has always been fun (not always good, but fun).

Ultimatum was a snuff film. Ultimate Enemy just imploded another section of the universe. Ultimate X-men ended badly (see snuff film above), and the new series is both behind schedule and written by Loeb.

The new USM series has actually continued to be good, and even the "Death of Spider-man" arc has started well. Amongst other things it's really kind of neat to see Spider-man as the only real superhero in the universe, even if he's just a kid compared to Cap, Iron Man, Thor, etc. The others are all super, but they have problems with the hero side of it. A couple issues ago, USM even did a really nice issue where Cap, Iron Man and Thor all gave their takes on Spider-man. It was just neat to see the high school kid inspiring even those three at some level. Plus the supporting cast is fun.

But the rest of the universe, yeah it's kind of just sucking.
