Brief Thought on Cry for Justice

I did not read Cry for Justice. I'm fairly happy about this decision.

I mean, I'm not THAT aghast that they killed off Lian Harper. I get that writers sometimes write awful things to get emotional reactions. And if a writer really wants to bring her back, there are ways.

But really though, is that the BEST way Robinson could think of to get at Roy and Ollie? Really? Resorting to a 'kill the kid' cliche?

It might be the best written comic of the year, but somehow I doubt that'd make the plot point less cheap. It seems like Robinson could do better.

So yeah, didn't buy it. Didn't read it. Can't say I regret that decision.

I didn't read it either. Didn't read the entire series. Skimmed the issue in the comic shop, saw Ollie, Dinah, and Mia find Lian's body, and that was it. Between that and maiming Roy, it's just, pardon the expression, overkill. And not even clever or interesting at that. I'm hoping the follow up is better. At least Robinson isn't writing Roy. J.T. Krul seems to actually understand Roy, but we'll see.

I didn't read it because it's the kind of art that just doesn't "read" right with me. It goes crossways to my brain and I can't pay attention to the writing. But if that's where the story went, meh. The whole extended Arrow family deserves better.

    I read it.

It's not so much that he fridged Lian. It's that he did it so BADLY.

Word is that there was a big steaming pile of Executive Meddling involved, but nevertheless -- there was no real emotional impact, and not a whole lot of coherence to the whole thing.

Okay, admittedly, "what a steaming pile of CRAP!" is indeed emotional impact, but not, one hopes, the one the creative team was driving for.

I read it, and actually rather enjoyed it in the beginning, as it had its moments of campy hilarity. Then the whole thing just deteriorated into a huge mess.

They didn't NEED to kill of Lian. It was poorly done, and fairly pointless to boot. Surely the maiming of Roy was more than enough to give Ollie angst, if that was the motive they were going for.

I read the first issue. Since my responses ranged from "this not how Hal & Ollie act" to "Congorilla? Really?" I decided not to stick with it. Apparently a good thing.

So, I do not actually consider this may have success.
