Kelly as Catwoman is Kinda Creepy

Am I the only one a little creeped out by this?

Okay, I acknowledge now, I'm probably being irrational. Especially as I have much much approval for barbie dolls dressed up like superheroes.

But I'm irrationally creeped out by the fact that of ALL the superheroes DC's got to offer, they have Kelly and Tommy dressed like Batman and Catwoman. I guess it's a bit of the prude in me, since well, I tend to think Batman's a little more adult in tone than a lot of the other heroes. I'd be more comfortable seeing the kid dressed like Robin or Superman, but well, it's hardly surprising.

I'm more uneasy about Kelly in the Catwoman costume though. I love Catwoman's current costume, I really do, and I'd love seeing it on an "adult" doll. But there's something about putting Barbie's little sister (Is Kelly the baby? Or Staci? I always get Barbie's family confused) in that costume really gives me the creeps.

I know that's silly, considering most of the heroes dress in skin tight spandex anyway, and it's really dumb that I'd be more comfortable with Kelly in the spandex purple number Selina wore previous, but that's the way I feel. There's something about a zipped up black leather catsuit that seems a lot more...borderline X-rated than mere silly purple spandex. I'm really terribly uncomfortable seeing a child-doll in that costume. (It probably doesn't help my subconscious that to me, anyway, Batman and Catwoman are among the most overtly sexual pair-ups in the DCU.)

I don't know. Irrational as it probably is, I really wish they'd decided to switch them, with Kelly as the Barbara Gordon Batgirl and Barbie as Selina Kyle. This way gives me the creeps.

    I dunno.

I see your point but I have to agree with one of the posters at the link - It still looks about 100X less slutty than a normal Bratz doll.

That's not a ringing endorsement of Stacy as Catwoman, mind you. I just find a doll of a toddler dressed as Catwoman far less creepy than... say... a five year old girl wearing the belly-shirt and short-skirt Supergirl costume.

Well...I would have dressed them as Sugar and Spike, but I'm old-fashioned.

No one Should wear that except M.p. But at least it wasn't the H. B. costume -shudder- One of the few things Halie did that WASN'T sexy.

Personally, the purple suit is more XXX. Probably cuz I get flashbacks of Jim Balent drawing Selina in that costume. This suit is my favorite Catwoman suit though so I'm probably biased.

You'd have to admit, though, the vinyl catsuit goes well with Barbie's new history as a down trodden prostitute hitting back with a successful fashion line and music career.

The purple suit was drawn more porny because of Balent, yeah. But I think, inherently, the suit is no worse than say Superman's blue and red ensemble.

There's an innately kinkier aspect to a suit made entirely of vinyl/leather. (I agree, it's actually my favorite of her costumes too...on an adult woman.)

Though I wouldn't be adverse to a different Catwoman outfit altogether for the child character.

I only know the doll line from commercials and the mass media undermind, but I thought Barbies little sister was named Skipper?

I think Barbie's got three sisters or so by this point. Maybe more, but I knew of three while working at a toy store: Skipper, who's teenage-ish, Staci who's 8-10 ish, and Kelly who's presumably 3-5.

    Why I know this, I don't know.

I don't have a problem with this product, but when I saw your Batgirl suggestion, I thought, "Yeah, that woulda been a better choice."
