A "Gee Whiz, I'm Dumb" moment!
I like to think I'm an intelligent and reasonably observant person. But sometimes? I miss the flipping obvious. When I realize this, it's usually beyond a Random Ridiculous Realization. It becomes a "Holy crap, I am DUMB" moment.
Seriously. It wasn't until this post that I realized the "Y" in "Y, the last man" could be a reference to the Y Chromosome.
Completely never occurred to me! :-)

Even I figured that out.
And I'm the guy who holds the record for most headbutts to a steel door.

Did you know that a number of the Y the Last Man covers feature a Y somewhere in the composition? So do a lot of the title/final pages.

That's okay. It took me ten years of watching Doctor Who to realized that K9 was a pun. And I'm the king of puns!

I didn't get that either until I read Nick's compilation of LGBT content. I remember reading it and saying, "Oh, I get it now." So, we're in the same boat speeding off to Dumbopolis. Good to have the company! :)

Subtlety is lost on me; I've had to have 'obvious' things shown/explained to me in comics because I'm not looking for any deep meaning.
There's NO way I would have picked up on the things you did with Sand...so stop being hard on yourself...:-)
BTW how did you end up doing with NaNoWriMo? Last update you had 18K words...did you get close? Will we ever see an excerpt?

Not only that, but the name of the main character, Yorick, also begins with a Y!
(I kid because I care)

mallet: Maybe the scar tissue actually helped.
anon: :-) Perils of learning words from books instead of tv. Pronunciation guides suck. :-)
sallyp: Hee. Give me forty years, I'll show you a senior moment.
david: :-)
michael: Heheh. I'd make fun, but "y"
loren: Yay. Good company!
chuck: Aww. Thanks. And I posted a NaNoWriMo update (such as it is). Short answer: Not really. But that's life.
seamus: Gasp!

It kind of reminds me of the moments when I suddenly realized that a character I'd known for years had a name that was a pun: The Juggernaut = Cain Marko = Mark of Cain.
(Not to mention how long it took me to realize that Steve Gerber's villainous land developer F.A. Schist translated into "fascist"...)
