I wonder...could this work in real life?

Anonymous: Saftey tip - No, it would not. Do not try this at home.

The question is, why did they feel the need to explain that piece of tech in particular? Was this all the rage back whenever this was published? Did that month's issue of Batman feature detailed explainations of all of his various gadgets on every other panel?

Seriously though, how weird is it that they felt they absolutely needed to explain away that one piece of tech in particular?

Oh I don't know. If old DC was like old Marvel, probably every tech doodad got similar treatment. I don't know if you've ever taken a look at those old Marvel Universe encyclopedias they put out in the late '80s, but they were chock-full of panels similar to this wirepoon treatment.

Really, the funny thing is that there is something called the wirepoon.

Maybe Mythbusters could look into this...

There's an issue with the 100 secrets of Batman's silken cord, or some other number.

"Fine but tough" is a lovely combination of adjectives.

    anon: I hope not. :-)

    brett: I concur.

jay: I think it was just for this special. I've never seen it explained anywhere else in the kirby/simon run. Though admittedly, I'm missing a lot of issues.

the dane: The real funny thing is that "wirepoon" still sounds dumb.

anon: Could be a spinoff about comic book science!

zaratustra: Batman's gadgets get explained a lot don't they? My friend had something that explained batarangs.

    centurion: Might be their inspiration.

    chris: It's so evocative.
