Random Reaction to 52

52 #7 was a momentous issue for a lot of reasons. Naturally, there are a lot of reactions/questions floating around out there.

I have to admit though, upon reading it, my first reaction is still...:

How the *fuck* did they make *Ralph Dibny* hot?!

Well since he's a widow he's gone and shaped his body into hotness.

He can do that, you know.

    Apparently so. :-)

It's the intense stare. It makes him look like he's filled with righteous anger, which gives him that whole "badboy with a heart of gold" thing going for him; sort of like James Dean.

I'm told women go for that sort of thing.

That and the stubble, which makes him look all rugged and whatnot.

It's hard to look sexy in a purple and white costume.

I thought it was just because his face had stopped melting, which it seemed to be doing constantly in Identity Crisis.

That's a good first step right there. Other wise, i'd vote beard, under I guess the "Riker Principle" or something.

Looks like Ralph's been watching a lot "Lost," specifically Sawyer. In that last panel, I expect him to cut loose with the derogatory nicknames.

anon: You're probably right. He's also got that tempered-steel gauntness going on, like everything soft has been stripped away.

shane: point. And he's in a suit. Suits are sexy. :-)

    calvin: There's that. :-)

tom: Oddly I never liked Sawyer on Lost. I suppose because I can't help but think, "Okay, you're stuck on an Island, and you're not *contributing* anything." Jack might be a jackass, but he pulls his weight. :-P

    I'll admit, Sawyer's pretty though.

I think it's that he's not doing that damned twitch.

And if Ralph were like Sawyer he'd probably call Booster "NASCAR Gold" or "Future Boy" or "Jetson".

Josh Holloway (Sawyer) would probably make a great Jonah Hex.

Glad to see you have your priorities in check. :p

Yeah, Ralph's always been drawn goofy. Maybe it was the elongated, twitchy nose that denied him any hotness?

notintheface: I kind of like the twitch. :-P

I think Holloway's a little too pretty for Hex, myself.

gus: The nose was fun. :-) But not so hot.

And I never forget my priorities. :-P

Its the assertive attitude and the fact that he's willing to call Booster on his BS.

Nothing more attractive than confidence, right?

:-) Probably the combination of everything listed so far.

    Especially the suit. :-)

Forgive my ignorance about 52, but are the sexual overtones text or subtext? Because the panels taken out of context say to me that those boys love each other.

On that note, is it too wrong of me to admit that I would not in any way be adverse to seeing fanservice in the form of them kissing?

  • At June 23, 2006 9:55 PM, Blogger kalinara said…

...you know, I didn't even connect any innuendo to those panels. :-) I'm losing my touch.

No intentional subtext AFAIK...but um...it *would* be really...interesting.

    I think your mistaken.

About the hotness of Ralph, the not-intentional subtext, or the fact that Booster/Ralph would be interesting?

i think its cuz they smooshed his nose... doesn't his beak normally stick way out of his face?

    Probably. :-)

    .... whoa.
When you're right, you're right, once again. I think it's tht take a stand against The Man (from the Future) style shot, the lowered head, the intensity and the idea that he's really got nothing else at this point, so why the hell not make yourself over to a sexy bachlor?

*nod nod* It's really mesmerizing, isn't it?
