Weird Comic Notion...
Ragnell and I were talking about Cowgirl the other day. The Green Lantern character, I mean. Ragnell dislikes her, I rather enjoy her. And the discussion kind of looped around to her similarities to Zinda Blake.
And I had the random thought that if I were writing comics, I would totally try to make her Zinda's granddaughter or something, with the idea being that Zinda had a kid and gave it up some time before she became time lost. (For the record, Zinda would totally be the rockin'est Grandma ever!)
And then of course, there'd be a brand new Blackhawk team with Cowgirl as Lady Blackhawk and Zinda as the mentor/commander figure. Because it would entertain me. And Zinda can never have enough panel time, in my opinion. :-)
Ragnell hates the idea of course, but I'm trying to win her over with the notion that it'd be very unlikely that Cowgirl would remain in Green Lantern banging Hal if she were doing all the fun Blackhawk type missions. She's not buying into it though.
Oh well. *I* think it'd be fun. :-)

Dislike is too tame a word.
I liked Jade better than her.

There's really not too much there to like or dislike about Cowgirl, from where I stand. She hasn't really developed as a personality aside from small glimpses here and there, from what I can see--- the closest I can get is small hints where you might be able to project anything on her.
All I can really see is basically: Cowgirl is blonde, pilots, and is aggressive. Beyond that, all I've ever really seen Cowgirl was that she's been defined as -someone- Hal is interested in, and all I've really seen her in, she's been rescued or flirting/making out with Hal. Or both at the same time.
Were there any particular scenes that really defined her as a personality that I'm oblivious to, or are you just projecting onto what few scenes she has?

I don't know, I think watching her interact with Hal, Carol and quite a few other characters in a variety of situations over the past twenty-something issues was more than enough to give a decent sense of her personality.
If you didn't find it so, it's your loss. :-)

David, you're missing a lot. First, two of those traits you listed are personality characteristics. Second, we've seen enough of her to be able to reasonably predict how she'd react to certain situations.
In the first issue it was established before we ever saw her out of the aircraft that she was reckless. The very next issue she was shown to be curious and sensual. Later on she was shown to be competitive and aggressive. All three early appearances hinted at a prideful, even arrogant streak.
That's in the first six issues. Since then we've seen that she's also a Texan cowboy romanticist.
That's enough of a personality to like or dislike her.
And going by the "Naked Man" test of characterization, I believe we could reasonably state after the second issue that if Cowgirl walked into a room with a naked man in it she would raise her eyebrows (tilt the hat upwards if wearing it) smirk at him and make a double entendre.

Does she have a real name? I mean the character is some kind of military pilot or something right? Shouldn't she have a real name and rank to go along with the call-sign?
Unless she wandered in from the Top Gun movie. I can't remember any of the pilots in that having real names...

Her name's Jillian Pearlman. Cowgirl's just more fun to type. :-P

Cowgirl does have some similarities to Zinda...they are both blonde, feisty and like to drink beer. Basically however, I think that they've made Cowgirl into a female Hal.
So when they are making out, it gets just a little creepy for me. But then I'm a Carol Ferris fan.

Oddly enough there was a story like that, though it featured the other Lady Blackhawk (who was retconned in for the late 80s Blackhawk series instead of Zinda for some reason) She had an illegitemate baby with the old Dutch guy whose name I forget, which was adopted by another member of the Blackhawks and his wife.
And Ragnell, I've never heard of the "Naked Man" characterisation test but I like the sound of it;)

This is the rockinest idea I've heard this year. Not just to add some depth to Cowgirl, but to tie the GL and Blackhawk mythos (mythoi) together without making Highball Blackhawk's protege or something.

Heh, now I KNOW it's a good idea, since it occurred to someone else already. :-P

If Cowgirl is a Blackhawk, does that mean she's a BlackCow? Or a Cowhawk?

Cowgirl is Starbuck. I think I said that ages ago.
I do like the idea of her being related to Zinda, though...
