Really now?

Okay...don't get me wrong, I adore cheesy 80s cartoons like nothing else. But, um...this both amuses and horrifies me.

A CGI Thundercats movie should definitely be entertaining, or at least entertainingly bad.

But I have to admit, there's a part of me going "So wait, WB would rather do Thundercats than Wonder Woman?!"

Okay, Transformers did fairly well, but Thundercats is kind of a completely different kettle of fish here. Is there anyone who thinks this will remotely turn out well?

On the plus side, if it bombs, maybe we'll end up with a moratorium on movies involving anthropomorphic cats.

Man...glad the guy at the comic shop ranting about G.I. Joe and the Transformers movie had not heard about this.

Of course, both the comic shop employee and I agreed that... hmmm...giant robots that transform into cars, fight each other and humans get caught in the middle. That's the Transformers. If it had been totally faithful to the original cartoon? It would have been all sorts of fail as a live action. Not that the movie was without it's flaws...but it was probably the best live action giant robots that transform into cars with humans caught in the middle we could get.

There's no way in a thousand hells I'd ever see a Thundercats movie -- but there's a lot less at stake if they screw it up. And, I suspect, a lot fewer ways to screw it up. Aside from the fact of its existence in the first place, that is.

A Thundercats movie eh? The apocalypse is indeed upon us. Actually, that's not the most horrifying thing I've heard. Apparently they are coming up with a CGI "Alvin & the Chipmunks" movie.

    *sigh*

Oh not just coming up with Sally.

    They're showing the trailers already.

Jason Lee is playing Dave (Brody, NOOOOOOO!) and the trailer centers around a poop-eating joke.

    Seriously.

That's why I can't get too worked up about the news of a CGI Thundercats movie. First, because there is no way it can be more unholy than Alvin eating Theodore's poop. And second, because a CGI movie will spare us having to see Cameron Diaz in a furry-suit playing Cheetara.

Basically a bunch of Hollywood execs decided it would be easy money to plunder the childhoods of adults today, betting that curiousity and a strong sense of nostalgia will herd them into theatres. Well played.
With this 80s revival, I'm kinda hoping there'll be a live-action adaptation of Jem. How fun would it be to dress up as the Misfits for Halloween?

Yes yes a thousand times yes!!! Thundercats was the first show that I did the "collecting all the toys" thing with way back when I was a wee 3 year old. I never really saw much Transformers or G.I. Joe at all but damn I loved me some Thundercats.

It does suck that Wonder Woman is languishing in production hell, but dude! Thundercats! :D
