Solicits Amuse Me

As everyone's probably seen by now, DC's August Solicits are up!

There's lots of interesting looking books here, though the solicitation that initially caught my eye is the one for Green Arrow, Year One:

GREEN ARROW: YEAR ONE #3-4
Written by Andy Diggle
Art and cover by Jock
Delve deeper into the origin of the Emerald Archer with Andy Diggle and Jock! Oliver Queen learns the sinister secret of the island he's been trapped on... just in time to come face to face with the mastermind behind his plight. And at long last Oliver Queen takes some responsibility for his fate.
Issue #3 on sale August 8; issue #4 on sale August 22

(Emphasis mine)

I'm calling shenanigans on this one. An Oliver Queen that takes responsibility for his fate? Really? Really?

I mean, I like Ollie as much as anyone, but Oliver Queen taking responsibility is like...Hal Jordan not being a self-absorbed arrogant jerk, or Kyle Rayner having something resembling an attention span and common sense. It's just...wrong.

That said, it looks like a fun series! :-)

And I know I'm not the only one to point out how awesome this cover is, but hey, good things can never have too much recognition!

THAT is Power Girl. Big, beautiful and more than willing to kick your ass if you give her a reason. Love it!

Heh heh. Yeah right, Ollie taking responsibility for something? If he does, it will be for a VERY short period of time, before he comes to his senses and starts weaseling out of it again.

I love Ollie, but his total lack of intelligence and responsibility is part of his charm, dammit!

But oh yes, that is a lovely depiction of Peej.

The PG cover is awesome indeed, but it's on the Liberty Bell centered issue. Good job, DC!
(credit goes to Dr. McNugget for pointing out that little oddity)

Still, I love the cover. I wish the 13" figure had bigger hands and slightly larger head from the solicits...

The cool thing about the PG cover is that her hair is slightly messed up and that look on her face. It's like she's just kicked someone's ass and is really proud of it.

Ah... painted cover... that means it should be safe to go back to the book and the JLA crossover'll be all wrapped up.

Not keen on the habit DC are cultivating of starting a book off, then shifting focus away soon after to "cosmic event" type stuff where other characters take focus.

I love Power Girl because she is just made of awesome and win. She's one of my favorite heroes ever, and this cover is absolutely perfect! Made me grin the second I saw it, heh. :D

I know Power Girl as a character is strong. But are there ANY good power girl stories?

Honestly, I've liked Power Girl in every story I've read her in, so I'm probably not the best person to ask for recommendations.

Though the current JSA series is the best place to read Power Girl right now.

How many damned year ones does Ollie need anyway? He had that Wonder Years or something mini, the Year One annual, and of course the obligatory origin stories...so...how many does he need??!
