As It Turns Out I Kind Of Like the Vision

I have, through magical proto-lawyer skill, somehow managed to convince both Ragnell and myself that we actually like the Vision.

I mean, yes, he is kind of emo. And his color scheme IS terrible. But he's got some good points too, and his relationship with the Scarlet Witch (and also the one-sided bickering from Quicksilver) is cute.

But really, I like him for two reasons:

1) He slouches.

slouchy vision

Actually, more than slouches. He downright sprawls. It's hard to explain why I find it so interesting. It might just be, well, he's an ANDROID. And an emo one. Emo Androids should sit up straight and rigid! They shouldn't slouch.

A slouching robot is downright fascinating to me!

2) He wears incredibly dorky turtlenecks.

Turtleneck

I realize it must be hard to tear your eyes away from that warped schoolgirl monstrosity that Wanda's wearing, but the Vision's turtleneck is a thing of beauty.

Why is he wearing it? I HAVE NO IDEA.

But yeah, these two panels have made me inexplicably fond of Vision. (Also, I think Tommy/Speed needs a father figure who isn't physically capable of getting irritated with him.) Now I want them to bring him back (preferably in a way that lets us keep the little one too). Because I kind of miss his slouchy, bad turtleneck wearing, emo ass.

Did you catch the Smallville-JSA thing tonight? I missed the first 15 minutes but thankfully got a reminder call. I'm not inspired to suddenly become a fan a Smallville, but it was pretty fun, I'll catch more if they do more with Waller.

Nope, I'm still not much of a Smallville fan. I've heard it's good this week.

So maybe I'm wrong, but isn't Vision's cape a part of his body? How does he get a turtleneck over his cape?

John Buscema really did a splendid job drawing all the Avengers back in the day. But gadzooks, Vision was whiney.

Just once I wanted him to enjoy his rather awesome powers. He could alter his density, win at chess, and was ganging a hot witch. All things considered, he had a pretty good deal going.

Was Wanda/Vision cute? I find the Maximoffs fascinating but am terrified of 70s/80s Avengers comics. Alcoholic Tony makes me nervous and I HATE the Wasp. But if they're cute...

Is it just me or does Vision look absolutely hammered in that first picture?

I think someone was trying to match drinks with Tony the night before that meeting.

Kiragecko: I think they're cute. And Vision's a lot less emo once they actually get together.

He's still a bit, but well, when your dad is Ultron, I think you've earned a bit of emo. :-)

He's also wearing that turtleneck OVER HIS COSTUME.

Though at that early point, they may not have been sure if he WORE a costume, or if that horrible color scheme was his SKIN.

(Verification word: "grurphom", which is what the Max Fleischer version of Popeye calls something that's half eagle and half lion.)

I always figured it was a costume if only because with the whole synthezoid descriptions and the like, I was reasonably sure he's anatomically correct.

No, Vision's costume isn't part of his body. His body is all red. I remember back in the Busiek-Perez Avengers run seeing him, in flashback, dressed in...a speedo!

And you've got to keep in mind that he's in the same universe as Peter Parker, Scott Summers, and Tony Stark, so by that standard, his emo-ness was only average.

Scott's not emo. He's STOIC. Heck, having the ability to BE emo might have made the man saner.

Vision however cried one single tear after the Avengers accepted him.

But yeah, by Marvel standards he's not that bad.

Valid point re: Scott. He did raise stoicism to a high art. Especially during the Claremont-Byrne years.

Also, you can't come down too hard on a guy who took down the Juggernaut single-handedly using his wits.

There's a simple reason he's wearing a turtle neck: dressing in normal clothes gets him closer to feeling human.

But Dan.. why is he wearing an UGLY turtleneck?

And by the way, Kalinara will make one HELL of a lawyer because she's made me love his emo slouchy ass too. There's a scan where he's talking about philosophy with Quicksilver that's just perfect.

I want that to be a thing, where he regularly quotes philosophy in the attempt to make Pietro worry about his place in reality. He's really so much better for it than a hallucination of Layla Miller, after all.
