So, some of the solicits are
up. Me, I'm thrilled about Manhunter, intrigued by Reign in Hell, and excited for Trinity and Final Crisis...but honestly, the main thing I noticed was the cover for JSA:

It's a good thing I'm not in the DCU, because I would totally not be able to look Alan Scott in the eye. Goodness.
Bet it gets airbrushed before the final printing...
XD OMG
ReplyDeleteI have this bad temptation to make a viagra joke, but I wun :D
XD
Well, I can't see anybody ELSES manliness...thanks a LOT, Hal...so having to settle for Alan is actually pretty good.
ReplyDeleteOn the other hand, he IS older than my father, so there is that aspect to consider.
But if we are going to have two Superman, it is only right that we have two Green Lanterns.
Oh. My. It would be nice if it goes to print as is. Would go a long way, heh, to make up for all those Wonder Woman butt cheek shots we've been subjected to recently.
ReplyDeleteOh my, I didn't even notice it until you mentioned it. Well if Alan were to look like Brad Pitt. I certainly wouldn't mind...
ReplyDeleteI am sucker for tall and blond.

*snickers*
ReplyDeleteWell, if Gog triggers that kind of effect on the men of the JSA I think we have a definite clue on how the team will be split on the issue.
Didn't Alex Ross do the same thing with the Citizen Steel cover?
ReplyDeleteCitizen Steel's suit was solid seamless steel, too. I can't imagine how that would even work.
Doesn't Alex Ross use himself as the model for most of his superhero characters? That would explain a lot.
ReplyDeleteWhat's also interesting is that Superman-616 and Superman-KC seem to be enthralled by Gog's nose hair, or lack thereof.
Hmm. The Citizen Steel cover is still for sale on Ross's site for something like $6000, IIRC. I so want it, not because I think it is a great cover or because I think the ... umm ... shorts are sexy but because the whole idea of visible cock is such a non-thing to me and yet still such a deal to the world of straight folk that I think the cover should be in the hands (so to speak) of a gay man you could still look Citizen Steel or Alan in the eyes.
ReplyDeleteDon't get me wrong. I'm not saying anything negative about your post, but at the same time, really? You can see the outline of his dick and ... ??? I guess we come for different worlds.
I know this is going to sound different than I intend it to, and let me apologize for that now, but I don't know how to express how this cover is different for me than it is for you.
It is a big uh, deal, Scott. I wish it wouldn't be, but it is because it's such a rarity. When compared to all the covers showing nearly all of a woman's anatomy (without being covered by clothing), the number of covers that reveal anything anatomical re: males (except for the occasional chest to go with muscular arms and thighs) is insignificant. So whenever there is something like that, well, I for one am hoping the original makes the final, uh, cut. It's not just gay men who can appreciate the male form. ;)
ReplyDeleteFor the record, I'd have trouble looking many female superheroes in the eye too.
ReplyDeleteThough admittedly, in that case there might be a bit less appreciation going on there. :-)
Why, what on Earth are you talking about? Genitals? Bah! All I see is a giant head, clearly full of joy, nigh-on bursting with anticipation. Since only one eye of this monstrous male creature is shown, one might even call this a detailed depiction of a one-eyed monster.
ReplyDeleteDoesn't Gog also have some sort of staff? I don't think I've run this joke into the ground yet. :P
I sure would be able to look him in the eye. And then I'd wiggle my eyebrow and go, "How you doin'?"
ReplyDeleteBut I can only speak for myself, of course.
I LOVE Alex Ross's work. Honestly.
Can you really wiggle one eyebrow? Cool! I've never managed to learn how.
ReplyDeleteI can see the suggestion of (KC) Kal's bulge as well.
ReplyDeleteYeah, our culture needs to get over this "Men have no visible genitalia" quirk.
